NO. 8 CREIGHTON SCORES TWICE TO DEFEAT WESTERN

Bowling Green, Ky. -- Creighton, the NSCAA's eighth ranked team, scored two late-game goals to hand Missouri Valley Conference foe Western Kentucky a loss at home Sunday and to record the Bluejays' first victory in three games. WKU falls to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the MVC while Creighton, rebounding from a 1-1 tie with Vanderbilt Friday, improves to 1-0-1 in the MVC.

Through 76 scoreless minutes, Western was vying for an upset until Richard Mulrooney (Memphis, Tenn.) used a chip shot just inside the near post on a direct kick to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead. Teammate Brian Mullan scored his fourth goal of the year, six minutes later, with an assist from former Western Kentucky student Patrick Parker (Murfreesboro, Tenn.).

The Hilltoppers outshot Creighton 8-5 in the first half, but were limited to two shots in the second.

Creighton goalkeeper Tom Zawislan (Brampton, CANADA) earned two saves to contribute to the Bluejays' third bleaching of the season. Freshman Ryan Lossie (Owensboro Ky./Owensboro Catholic) made four saves in the losing effort.

Western hosts Wright State for its last regular season home-game Wednesday, and Creighton takes on Evansville Friday in Omaha.
